Job Description: Radiologic Technologist

Job Summary: To perform radiologic examinations following established procedures for patient care and safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Takes X-Rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.

2. Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials.

3. Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to Department Head.

4. Logs radiologic procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.

5. Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies.

6. Performs basic nursing duties which include: answering phones, greeting patients upon arrival, checking patients into the system, collecting co-pays, pre-authorizing credit cards, collecting payments, rooming patients, taking vitals and patient histories, obtaining chief complaint, completing point of care lab testing, scheduling ancillary appointments, and discharging patients.

7. Responsible for packaging, signing of medical records release forms & logging X-Rays.

8. Ensures all radiographs achieve a radiographic interpretation by clarifying discrepancies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Minimum high school degree or equivalent.

2. ARRT or equivalent.

3. Appropriate state licensure for nuclear safety.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

1. Ability to communicate in English both verbally and written.

2. Excellent interpersonal skills.

3. Excellent communication skills with providers, staff, management, patients and companies.

SKILLS:

1. Proficient knowledge of X-Ray procedures and protocols.

2. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-Ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.

3. Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.

4. Ability to identify equipment problems and correcting or notifying team leader.

5. Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients, and families.

7. Able to withstand physical & mental demands: standing, walking, stooping, bending. Requires ability to move equipment and transfer patients. Occasional stress in working with tense patients.

8. Basic computer knowledge.

9. Up-to-date on annual radiation protection in-service, and provide documentation.

10. Up-to-date on annual blood borne pathogen in-service, and provide documentation.

11. Up-to-date on injections, and provide documentation, as per OSHA guidelines.
