Theater Technical Director – Fairfax County Government – Reston, VA

Manages technical operations for RCC’s professional theatre, the CenterStage, as well as other public presentation areas of RCC facilities. Must be familiar with technical theatre operations, equipment and crew management for a year-round calendar of performances, as well as possess superior managerial skills related to production management, budget preparation and oversight of a multi-level performance and event calendar. RCC presents a professional touring artist series, hosts several community-based arts organizations, and offers the community a year-round calendar of offsite performances.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from college, including or supplemented by formal training in the theater arts; plus four years of responsible technical theatrical experience involving work with lighting, sound and stage sets.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
The following certifications are required within 6 months of hire:

  • AED Training
  • Fall Protection Competent Person Training
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Forklift Safety Training


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of production management and/or technical direction responsibility with multi-function venues.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the techniques of theatrical technical operations including production management, rigging, sound systems, lighting, video and set construction.
  • At least four years of experience setting up, operating and maintaining theater equipment, including but not limited to: Digital and analog audio equipment and mixing consoles; computerized lighting consoles, instruments, and related equipment; video and projection equipment; manual counter-balanced and motorized rigging systems; and power and hand tools.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising a variety of theater staff.
  • Experience supervising capital improvement projects.
  • Proficient in using theater software, such as Live Show Control (QLab, etc.), Vectorworks, and Lightwright.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders and stairs, lifting and pulling. Employee will be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying items up to 50 pounds. Position requires manual dexterity and flexibility of limbs, balance and ability to withstand heights up to 50 feet. Work requires excellent hearing and vision.
