Summary

The Equipment Specialist provides technical/process support as an equipment Subject Matter Expert for the compounding operations. The position is visible on the manufacturing floor. It has high interaction with the production team to resolve issues during manufacturing. Drives improvements in overall process and equipment effectiveness (equipment availability, operator efficiency and product yield). As an owner of all equipment in compounding operations, they will perform routine and non-routine instrument calibrations and maintenance as well as limited repairs on a variety of equipment and instruments. This position reports directly to the Compounding Operations Manager.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (these are primary responsibilities of the role and the incumbent will perform other duties as assigned)

  • Develop a solid understanding of compounding processes/equipment – evolve into SME
  • Develop a solid understanding Lean/Six Sigma tools: SPC, CPk, Statistics, Pareto, Fishbone, 5-Why’s, etc. Utilize these tools to drive improvements in overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Participate in cross functional continuous improvement initiatives that directly impact operations performance
  • Review process trends to identify areas of improvements, including: equipment downtime (PM’s, spare parts, equipment/tooling design), operator efficiency (set-up, tear-down, overall batch run speed) and product yield issues
  • Responsible for standardization/training of set-up and basic troubleshooting procedures for Operators
  • Ability to create and manage and Work Orders
  • Ensure timely and accurate calibration support for all compounding instruments and equipment.
  • Set up basic test equipment to measure various parameters including but not limited to temperature and pressure.
  • Serves as a technical resource on calibration issues and investigation of out-of-tolerance events.
  • Adjusts/repairs instruments to meet calibration tolerance requirements.
  • Develop and execute timely performance of preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate equipment documentation and change control according to internal procedures.
  • Assist in the installation and startup of new equipment.
  • Author and/or assist in the investigation of process related non-conformances.


Job Requirements (Education and Experience)

  • Associate’s degree with 4-6 years’ experience or high school diploma with >6 years related manufacturing experience
  • Minimum 1 year calibration or electronics experience preferred, ideally in the Clinical/Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a ”hands on environment” capable of troubleshooting complex equipment and systems
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook and the ability to use enterprise software, such as BPLM, Maximo, Trackwise, etc.


Physical / Safety Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work with pressurized equipment, hot surfaces.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces.
  • Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends
  • Extended periods of standing and/or walking
  • Extended periods in Grade C, D production environments
  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate equipment is required
