Product Analyst – State Auto Insurance Companies – Columbus, OH

The Analyst role is designed to provide metrics and recommendations to the Product Director impacting profitability and growth.The Product Analyst will be responsible for analyzing the business results of their assigned territory. The Analyst will be responsible for identifying drivers of out of pattern results. The Analyst will pull together the key metrics necessary to tell the story of the territory results. The Product Analyst must understand the coverage forms and manuals of the territory’s auto programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify positive and negative business results to address the opportunities for each territory.

  • Create reporting to help with routine monitoring of pre and post pricing or underwriting changes.

  • Utilize reporting to identify trends.

  • Leverage data resources to create reporting and monitor business performance.

  • Evaluates competitive and consumer research on the market’s product requirements.

  • Lead development of new reporting and special projects, in all State Auto market sectors and states of operation, in order to facilitate change across the enterprise.

Minimum Experience/Education

  • College degree in a business-related field, or a combination of experience and training deemed to be the equivalent.

  • Two years experience in property-casualty insurance required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to manipulate large quantities of data

  • Exposure to SQL

  • Requires a solid understanding of business insurance pricing principles, manual rules, policy forms, and underwriting guidelines and how these components contribute to positive corporate underwriting results.

  • Requires a solid understanding of business insurance workflow, including how policies are entered and processed. Proficiency in word processing, database software, and the creation of spreadsheets is critical for success in the position.

Communication and Collaboration Skills

  • Excellent business writing skills are necessary in order to communicate precisely and effectively with other State Auto associates.

  • Above-average verbal communication skills are necessary in order to communicate clearly and effectively with all constituencies.

Problem Solving

  • Must be able to provide fact based recommendations resolving business problems.

  • Must be able to resolve data inconsistencies.

  • Must be able to make judgments based upon previous experiences and factual information and recognize when and to whom to escalate issues for resolution.
