Position Summary:

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for working with Producers, to identify and research prospective clients, follow up on sales calls, maintain and update a prospect database and try to drive interest. They may refer new business to Producers, or may close sales themselves. The primary responsibility of Business Development Specialists is to identify new business opportunities-typically complex in nature, determine appropriate products/services to offer, and provide pre-sales support for Producers. Business Development Specialists Senior have a strong working knowledge of potential clients and the insurance brokerage business and have seasoned selling skills. Have ability to reach executive-level contacts within customer organizations.

Additional Considerations:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 or more years related experience required
  • Appropriate insurance licensing

Desired:

  • Professional certifications such as CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist), CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter), CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) or ARM (Associate in Risk Management)

Work Traits:

  • Act independently with minimal direction
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
