Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining the Prisma Health Trauma Registry computerized database system on a continual basis by collecting and abstracting of accurate, complete and timely data from the medical record. Accurately enters data into registry for use in quality improvement, research, and statistics.

Accountabilities

• Identifies patients who fit criteria to be entered into trauma registry by running reports from hospital systems such as IBEX and Transfer Center with the assistance of the Supervisor.
• Abstracts required demographic, clinical, and quality data from the medical record by using hospital systems such as Sovera and other databases on all registry patients accurately and in a timely manner.With the assistance of the Supervisor, will code all diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9 and AIS coding for each registry patient.
• Enters abstracted data into the Collector Trauma Registry. Assures that data meets trauma registry guidelines for accuracy and timeliness. Ensures that each record is complete and has run all checks prior to closing record in registry. Interacts with state and local agencies and facilities to obtain required material for completion of registry (e.g., EMS and Flight agencies).
• Will be an active participant in the PI process and will help to identify issues found while abstracting the medical record.
• Produces reports on the data as requested.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Job related coursework beyond high school: Medical Information or Terminology
• 2 years of experience in a bstracting data from medical records. Must include 1 year of collecting and entering data into a registry.
