Resident Assistant – Assisted Living – VMP Healthcare & Community Living – West Allis, WI

Summary

Provides resident care, keeps RCAC apartment clean and orderly. Facilitates resident activities and adheres to all standards as outlined in the CBRF training course. Promotes teamwork and harmony among co-workers. Must adhere to DHS 89 guidelines for training unless grandfathered prior to April 1, 2010.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Documentation

  • Completes all required documentation per VMP policy independently.

  • Reports all incidents immediately and completes written report as required by facility policy.

  • Documents all information promptly and accurately prior to end of shift.

Job Skills/Team work

Communication

  • Maintains confidentiality. Assures that the resident’s medical record and other resident centered information are provided only to authorized personnel.

  • Reports any change in condition which would include, but is not limited to, resident’s weight, skin condition, elimination, level of consciousness, vital signs, appetite, and behavior.

  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships.

  • Provides pertinent information regarding residents and the events of the day to the oncoming relief person of the next shift. And documents significant changes in condition of resident

  • Provides information to prospective residents/family members regarding Wesley Park RCAC .services and appropriately directs them to the executive director.

Job Duties

  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living for all residents as needed and identified in their Individual Service Plan. Those services to include, but not limited to, personal grooming and hygiene, bathing weight checks, dressing/undressing(limited) ambulating, safety, and environmental cleanliness.

  • Facilitates activities as assigned, promotes participation.

  • Provides assistance with meal preparation and meal time activities if requested.

  • Trains new employees in job duties.

  • Welcomes and orients new residents and families to Wesley Park RCAC and current residents and staff.

  • Teaches residents fire and safety responsibilities and precautions.

  • Launders residents clothing and bedding as needed.

  • Performs med passing as delegated by the RN clinical coordinator

  • Performs daily bed making

  • Removes trash daily

  • Transports residents as needed

  • Works closely with the dietary staff to ensure meals are provided

Work Standards

  • Maintains an acceptable record of attendance and promptness, according to facility policy.

  • Dresses to meet department standards.

  • Changes performance behavior as a result of feedback from others.

  • Practices careful, efficient, and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen. Follows established charge procedures for resident care items.

  • Assures that residents are free from abuse and/or neglect.

  • Treats every resident with dignity and respect.

  • Allows resident to make choices whenever possible.

  • Maintains and provides for resident rights.

  • Provides privacy and warmth to residents at all times.

  • Handles resident belongings properly according to procedure.

  • Interacts with family members, peers and supervisors in a respectful and appropriate manner.

  • Follows facility isolation procedures as indicated.

Other

  • Organizes cares assistance for the resident to meet physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs consistent with the established plan of care.

  • Promotes individual independence through involving resident at the highest possible level in their own care. Provides demonstration and supervision for the resident in simple self-care activities.

  • Maintains acceptable communication standards.

  • Maintains confidentiality.

  • Maintains acceptable work standards which includes, but is not limited to, dress code, attendance, tardiness, and required in-service.

  • Adheres to all facility and departmental policies and procedures including infection control.

  • Adheres to all State and Federal guidelines.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be age 18 or over. Must complete the medication administration course


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, medication administration orders operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A current C.B.R.F certification is required upon hire. Must complete a minimum of 12 continuing educational hours per year, the same as required for Certified Nursing Assistants. Must have completed the medication administration course.
