Sterile Processing Tech – Full Time – Jackson Hospital – Montgomery, AL

Under the direction of the unit team leader, the Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) receives, decontaminates, reprocesses and distributes surgical instruments and equipment; maintains associated equipment and assures instrumentation and equipment is safe and ready for surgical procedures. Performs other unit functions appropriate to the position, and in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and protocols. Receives and decontaminates instrumentation and equipment according to standards and department policies in a safe and effective manner consistent with manufacturer’s recommendations. Inspects integrity of instrumentation, performs testing of designated instrumentation according to standards and department policies and communicates findings appropriately. Protects instruments, equipment and self by handling equipment properly and donning appropriate PPE. Assembles instrument trays correctly after disinfection. Following sterilization, returns trays to proper location. Performs quality testing and completes all required documentation accurately to assure proper tracking of sterilized items and equipment function. Confirms that conditions for sterilization have been met and any deviations are promptly communicated to team leader or PCM. Performs routine equipment maintenance and terminal cleaning. Demonstrates responsibility for own competency and personal performance. Assists with the orientation of others. Continually and proactively seeks learning opportunities and situations to advance career skills to promote higher performance level. Adheres to and consistently supports professional standards and health care regulations that provide for and promote safety and high quality patient care in Perioperative Services. Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining knowledge base of current unit and hospital-based communication through a variety of modalities including but not limited to communication books, notices posted within the hospital and department, meeting minutes, Jackson Hospital intranet, and JH email system.
