Lead Lab Assistant III-P – PRE-ANALYTICAL Service is responsible for managing the workflow of assigned areas in the Clinical Laboratory, designing and maintaining schedules. Participates in updating and maintaining procedures, maintaining adequate levels of supplies and training staffing to ensure optimum delivery of quality laboratory services. Acts as a resource for problem resolution in assigned areas of the Clinical Laboratory and collaborates with the Pre-Analytical or Section supervisor to resolve Human Resource issues. Essential Functions Advises Pre-Analytical Supervisor of the need for changes in staffing, supplies, equipment, physical facilities, procedures and polices Assists in assuring that laboratory procedures and policies are followed; that work is timely, accurate and of high quality; that interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, other laboratory and hospital staff are cooperative and courteous and that efforts to ensure high quality of information and service to patients and physicians have highest priority. Assists in coordinating distribution and flow of work, ensures timely and accurate handling of specimens and reports in keeping with laboratory policies, objectives and protocols.

Assists Pre-Analytical Supervisor in communicating with personnel provides support and informs them of changes affecting policies and procedures. Assists Pre-Analytical Supervisor in the timely collection of statistical data relating to areas of responsibilities. Communicates regularly with Pre-Analytical Supervisor in order to keep him/her appropriately informed of activities, changes, ergonomic issues and problems, within the laboratory and to ensure that policies, procedures, standards, objectives and activities in which Lab Assistants engage are in keeping with those of the Clinical Laboratories. Designs and maintains appropriate work schedules for staff in assigned areas, adjusting staffing to match workload. Keeps the Pre-Analytical Supervisor or Pre-Analytical Manager advised of all personnel issues in a timely manner. Maintains statistics and records such as workload, attendance, and utilization as required. Monitors and oversees training of new Laboratory Assistants, as well current Laboratory Assistants personnel as needed. Accurately documents and maintains training records for all personnel in assigned area. Must be able to perform all Laboratory Assistant III and III-P duties in assigned area(s), and provide backup coverage for various positions with assigned area(s). Participates in and enforces life-safety, biohazard/hazardous waste, infection control, and risk management policies, procedures and standards. Is responsible for identifying, reporting and initiating corrective action for any potentially harmful condition and/or behavior. Participates in the competency assessment of all Laboratory Assistant personnel within assigned areas(s). Participates in updating and maintaining procedure manuals pertaining to assigned areas, and acts as a resource for staff regarding policies and procedures, obtaining final approval from Pre-Analytical Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent Experience: Two (2) years of directly related work experience License/Certification: Certified Phlebotomist (CPT) Strongly Preferred: Demonstrated work experience in pediatric phlebotomy Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.
