RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary purpose of this position is to provide medical care and services to patients who present to the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STI) Clinic with STI-related conditions. In addition, the position will provide some assistance in the Refugee Clinic regarding communicable disease screenings for newly arrived refugees. This advanced practitioner will assess and manage patients presenting to Durham County Health Department (DCoDPH) with common communicable diseases, with a focus on STIs. The advanced practitioner will manage patients through the processes of evaluation, diagnosis, medical treatment, and patient education.

Ability to understand and use electronic based data and reporting systems.

Ability to be flexible and receptive to change in dealing with staff needs, agency needs, changing patient populations, changing program requirements and other community agencies.

REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the N. C. Board of Medical Examiners and “approved to practice medical acts” based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners; or licensed as a Registered Nurse by the N. C. Board of Nursing, graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the N. C. Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and “approved to practice medical acts” based on education and experience by the Joint Subcommittee; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
