The Medical Scribe transcribes medical information dictated by physicians or support staff in the exam room during patient visits and after visits to complete the patient’s summary and medical record. This individual will amend physical, history and care plan macros as dictated/directed by physicians during and after the patient’s visit. The Medical Scribe transcribes dictated reports and translates abbreviations into fully understandable form and also edits as necessary and returns reports in electronic form for review and signature, or correction.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of post-secondary Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology courses.

Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a Medical Transcribing Program.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: Demonstrated ability to type 60 words per minute (wpm) corrected. Demonstrated proficiency with writing skills and spelling. Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology.

Preferred/Optional: Two years’ experience as a medical transcriptionist and experience working as a medical scribe. Previous experience working in a medical office setting.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) provided by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.

This position will scribe for provider procedures and participate in the surgical/procedural setting.
