Registered Nurse (RN) – Lenox Hill Radiology – Bay Shore, NY

Job Summary:

Insures patient privacy and dignity. The nurse will assess, identify needs, plan, implement appropriate interventions, document, evaluate outcomes, assist physicians with procedures, monitor patient’s vitals and may assist with front office or various other clerical/administrative duties. Areas of practice are: general and interventional radiology, CT, MRI, PET, ultrasound, myelography, and pain management.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Puts patients at ease by explaining the procedure and responding to their questions/requests in a professional manner.
  • Reviews M.D. orders and exam indications.
  • Assesses and monitors patient condition and initiates appropriate nursing intervention.
  • Informs and prepares patients for imaging.
  • Administers sedation as necessary under direction and supervision of Radiologist.
  • Establishes intravenous access.
  • Observes the administration of contrast material.
  • Assists with contrast reactions.
  • Responds to office emergencies, First Responder.
  • Assists Radiologists with interventional procedures and treatments.
  • Administers I.V. drugs, including emergency and narcotics.
  • Monitors vital signs when necessary.
  • Assists in transporting patients.
  • Maintains and monitors stocked medication and controlled substances.
  • Maintains emergency medications, equipment, and supplies.
  • Coordinates effective management of emergencies.
  • Practices radiation safety.
  • Assists with risk management, quality assurance and quality improvement.
  • Practices universal medical precautions.
  • Keeps patient information confidential.
  • Respect rights of family members that are accompanying the patient.
  • Provides complete instructions on post procedure care.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CT Duties

  • Screens patient surveys for contraindications to the ordered exam.
  • Evaluates allergies, lab work (BUN, Creat.).
  • Prepares patient for the exam (oral, rectal, I.V. access).
  • Administer appropriate contrast.

MRI Duties

  • Reviews the answers of the safety survey with the patient and the technologist.
  • Prepares patient for the exam.
  • Assists the technologist in preparing the room for the exam.
  • Administers the injection of contrast when indicated.
  • Assesses the patient and/or reactions related to the contrast administration.

PET Duties

  • Prepares patient for the exam.
  • Monitors blood glucose level, documents and notifies the Radiologist accordingly.
  • Established I.V. access.
  • Teaches family and patient basic after care.

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Familiarity with and ability to use specialized equipment (EKG, O2, monitors).
  • Knowledge and ability to do necessary nursing functions.
  • Ability to assist patients onto table.
  • Knowledgeable of catheters, if applicable.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and appropriate fashion.
  • Ability to stand for as much as 90% of your shift and during all patient interactions.

Education & Experience Requirements:

The above knowledge, skills and abilities may be demonstrated by successful completion of an accredited nursing program; state and federal licenses (as applicable); and appropriate registrations and/or certifications.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $38.00 – $42.00 per hour
