Motor Broom Operator (Critical Position) (HOLD) – City of Phoenix – Phoenix, AZ

This position operates heavy-duty, motorized street sweeping equipment that has complex operating and maintenance requirements. This equipment is used to clean the surfaces of City streets. This position includes performing routine preventative maintenance, servicing vehicles and making minor running repairs on vehicles. Currently there is one vacancy in the Street Transportation Department.


This recruitment includes an interview and demonstration exam
. Only applicants who meet the requirements as stated in the “Minimum Qualifications” section will receive an invitation to the interview and demonstration exam via email. The interview and demonstration exam involves CDL air brake check, parts identification, pre-operational inspection, safety, post-operational maintenance, broom adjustments, motor broom operations, and dumping.

IDEAL CANDIDATE


SALARY

$19.46 (minimum) – $25.14 (maximum) hourly / $40,477 – $52,291 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have at least 92 documented hours operating heavy duty, motorized street sweeping equipment OR be qualified for “out-of-class” pay on similar equipment

  • For all positions, individuals will be required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) medical examination, and possess a class A Commercial Driver License at the time of application.

  • As a condition of continued employment, employees in CDL positions will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing, as required by law.

  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

  • Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS –
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience with reading and following electronic maps and GIS location devices

  • Experience with minor adjustments/repair of motor brooms.

  • Able to perform CDL 7 Step Airbrake and pre and post trip inspection
