Laboratory Technician – Water Services Department (Critical Position) – City of Phoenix – Phoenix, AZ

Laboratory Technicians in the Laboratory Services Section of the Environmental Services Division are responsible for monitoring water quality for inorganic and organic constituents in order to maintain regulatory requirements. This position is engaged in the physical, chemical, microbiological, molecular, or process-related analyses of water and wastewater samples in accordance with federal and state laboratory requirements and internal quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) policies and procedures. Positions may be at a water production facility, a wastewater treatment plant, or a compliance laboratory.


IDEAL CANDIDATE

SALARY

$16.84 (minimum) – $24.53 (maximum) hourly / $35,027 – $51,022 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of standard laboratory tests or instrumental analyses in a public health, crime laboratory, or utility chemical laboratory, including courses in chemistry, bacteriology, or a related field.

  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

  • Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS –
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, microbiology, environmental sciences or closely related field.

  • Experience with Environmental Protection Agency and/or Arizona Department of Health Services policies and procedures for laboratory analysis.
