Job Responsibilities

As a tax intern at Grant Thornton, your primary responsibilities will consist of tax consulting and tax return support duties, including tax research, tax planning, and the preparation of supporting work papers for various tax related projects. You will work with a variety of entities such as corporations, partnerships, estates, and trusts, as well as individuals. In addition, you will be exposed to diverse industries including private equity, real estate, consumer industrial products, not-for-profits, and healthcare. Tax interns are employed on a wide assortment of procedures, which vary depending on the type of engagement and the intern’s experience. Procedures range from researching complex tax issue, drafting memoranda, preparing supporting workpapers and models, to preparing presentations for our clients’ management team. As a tax intern, you will work closely with associates, senior associates, managers, and partners on all phases of projects.

Grant Thornton has opportunities within its Mergers and Acquisitions Tax, International Tax, Federal Tax, State and Local Tax, Strategic Federal Tax, and Private Wealth Service lines.

Additional job responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

Identifying, researching, and assessing various domestic and international tax issues while providing information to senior staff members
Drafting tax workpapers documenting analysis on various consulting projects
Preparing tax models to assist clients with understanding how tax planning affects cash flow
Preparing tax memoranda
Identifying and carrying out other projects
Providing training and mentoring to junior staff members
Collaboratively working with client team members while building rapport and strong client relationships
Responding to inquiries from the IRS and other taxing authorities
Engaging in regular client discussions, communications, and outreach

Qualifications

Qualifications
Pursuing a Juris Doctorate or Tax LLM
Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
Preferred Skills:
Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong technical aptitude
Proven research and writing skills
Demonstrated project management skillset including project planning and time management
Basic understanding of excel and accounting concepts
Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a complex team environment
