Deputy Commissioner for Administration – Virginia Dept of Health – Richmond, VA

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to serving the community and protecting the health and well-being of our citizens. VDH seeks to hire a Deputy Commissioner for Administration (DC-A) to manage a broad range of administrative, management, and financial services. VDH employs 3500 staff and $730 million budget. The DC-A reports to the Commissioner of VDH and serves as spokesperson for the Commissioner on administrative and financial matters. The DC-A directs the Offices of Shared Business Services, Financial Management, Information Management, Vital Records, and Procurement and General Services, which totals approximately 150 classified positions, and a varying number of hourly employees and contract staff.

The candidate selected for this critical leadership position will serve as agency’s Chief Administrative and Financial Officer and advisor to the Commissioner. As a member of the agency’s executive team, the DC-A will focus on:

1. Sound management and best practices in budgeting, financial management
2. Experience in leading project and change management initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to drive project and organization results
3. Oversight of Technology, Systems and programs governance, design, development, implementation, and maintenance
4. Vision, strategic plan, and long-term goals for the agency’s administrative programs.
5. Communication and collaboration with colleagues, customers, business partners, and stakeholders
6. Data analytics and business intelligence
7. Independent actions: has broad authority on issues pertaining to areas assigned.

The DC-A must be a leading voice and collaborate with colleagues on the Commissioner’s Leadership Team to deliver services and programs that will place VDH as the leading State Public Health Agency in the nation.
