Job Title: EXPERIENCED Dog Handler

Position Summary: The Dog Handler will work within a team setting to ensure the dogs at Hi Tor Animal Shelter are cared for. We are looking to fill this position with someone who has a desire to work closely with dogs, has strong cleaning skills, is organized and is friendly and courteous to others. Previous experience with dogs preferred.

Responsibilities include:

· Prepare food and feed dogs (special diets closely followed)

· Watering dogs- maintaining that all dogs have water at all times and buckets are sanitized on a daily basis.

· Cleaning dog kennels in accordance with proper sanitizing measures

· Poop scooping, disinfecting of kennels, sweeping, mopping and trash removal

· Working as a productive team member, assist other team members and communicate clearly

· Relate to employees, volunteers, and visitors in a friendly informative and professional manner.

· Relay any concerns about a dog (i.e. behavior or medical) to kennel manager

· Assist trainer with behavior modification with dogs as needed

· Assist staff as needed

· Other duties assigned

Required Skill and Experience

· Ability to handle aggressive dogs at times and recognize behaviors and temperament.

· Duties include dog handling tasks such as intake from the public and Animal Control.

· Ability to handle aggressive dogs at times and recognize certain behaviors.

· Demonstrates approachability when dealing with general public

· Demonstrates the ability to create and encourage positive work environment

· Strong interpersonal skills, for example the ability to develop positive relationships with others and demonstrate sensitivity to the thoughts, feelings and perspectives of others

· Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner

· Must be willing to work weekends and holidays

· Able and willing to professionally advocate for Hi Tor Animal Care Center as a representative of the organization to supporters, volunteers and potential adopters

Physical Requirements

· Must be able to routinely lift 40lbs

· Must be able to work out doors in all weather conditions

· Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis including but not limited to: climbing: up a ladder, lifting and carrying, reaching, stopping, squatting, cleaning and bending

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
