CNA/Nurse Extern – Critical Care – Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center – Jasper, IN

Job Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant assists professional nursing staff by performing supportive and complimentary tasks in patient care activities under direct supervision and in conjunction with the other team members. Performs routine Department duties and demonstrates knowledge of developmental needs of patient population specific to that Department. (Patient population is defined in each Department’s Scope of Practice.)

Qualifications

Education – CNA:

High School student, diploma, or equivalent required. Certification required.

Education – Nurse Extern:

Student in good standing in school of profession nursing (Associate or Baccalaureate). Documentation of successful completion of two semesters of clinical experience is required at time of application. Acquire certification from Indiana State Department of Health Certified Nursing Assistant registry within 120 days of hire, if required by department/unit guidelines

Training:

Four to six weeks orientation with preceptor. CPR Provider-C required within 30 days of hire.

Experience:

Previous experience in a health care facility preferred.

Job Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

Knowledge of procedures and techniques in giving simple treatments and providing bedside care to the patient. Understanding of good technique to avoid infection of patients and self or contamination of equipment and supplies. Familiarity with location of other departments in Hospital. Knowledge of correct body mechanics. Knowledge of established Hospital regulations, policies, and procedures. Successful completion of skills checklist within 60 days.


Performance Requirements

Providing maximum patient care within limits defined by delegated tasks. Maintaining patient safety and comfort, infection control, and Standard Precautions. Maintaining a clean and safe environment. Utilizing supplies efficiently.

Physical Demands:

On feet for major portion of the day; much pulling, pushing, and lifting required. Visual, auditory, and speech acuity essential to giving nursing care and evaluating patient need. Works in nursing department and patient rooms which are well lighted, heated, and ventilated; some exposure to disagreeable conditions. May come in contact with hazardous health conditions; however, if proper procedure is followed no harm should come to employee.

Special Demands:

Ability to work under close supervision and to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to work with all disciplines, using tact and good judgment in dealing with varying conditions. May be required to work rotating shift and a reasonable amount of overtime. Communicates effectively with others and maintains confidentiality. Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values, and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude.
