The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Immunology, Allergy & Rheumatology, is currently accepting applications for a full-time, research scientist position.

Essential Function

The Research Scientist will participate in the development and design of research projects, protocols and experiments on various topics. Modify and adapt experimental protocols, techniques and procedures to specific project requirements. Design, coordinate and conduct experimental procedures. Prepare research results and written summaries of results in manuscript form for publications and in graphics form for presentation at research meetings and for grant proposals. Maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and records.

Primary Duties

  • Modify and adapt experimental protocols, techniques and procedures to specific project requirements.
  • Design, coordinate and conduct experimental procedures.
  • Prepare research results and written summaries of results in manuscript form for publications and in graphics form for presentation at research meetings and for grant proposals.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or other relevant discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in Immunology or an appropriate related discipline and three (3) years of related professional research experience in immunology.
  • Two years of experience in experimental laboratory work in Type 1 Diabetes (either human or animal diabetes) or experimental experience in autoimmune liver or biliary disease, or other autoimmune models is preferred.
  • Experience with experimental studies of pancreatic islets or liver infiltrating lymphocytes is beneficial.
