RESPONSIBILITIES

The Health and Wellness Manager/Disability Coordinator  is responsible for the overall supervision and operation of the health and wellness programs inclusive of medical, Mental Health, Oral Health, and Trainee Employee Assistance Program. Responsible for duties assigned to Co-Disability Coordinator.

-Assists students in adjusting to Center life to enhance student retention by providing supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and by acting as a positive role model and mentor.

-Employee provides, and ensures staff assigned to their supervision provide, services that meet the needs of students in a timely professional manner with the highest degree of customer service in mind.

-Adheres to all PRH and CSDC policies and procedures, and the Center Operating Procedures.

-Maintains confidentiality, but reports significant events or situations immediately through approved channels to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff, and to ensure that required reporting occurs, and that students receive emergency services as needed.

-Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, or emotional trauma.

-Ensures equipment and assigned work areas are clean and maintained in accordance with Center, CSD, and DOL standards, including conducting quarterly property counts, submitting property relocation requests, may serve as a property custodian, and submits maintenance requests as needed.

-Supervises assigned staff, reviews and approves requests for time off, and may be required to arrange substitute staff coverage. Reviews for accuracy and approved assigned staff timesheets.

-Assists in preparing staff schedule and weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as assigned.

-Supervises center health and wellness services including nurses, clerical, and health consultants.

-Responsible for the overall implementation of Job Corps Health programs.

-Conducts center needs health/wellness assessments; plans and coordinates services and programs that respond to identified student needs.

-Initiates workmen’s compensation documentation and maintains secondary OSHA logs.  Performs follow-up surveillance of workmen’s compensation cases.

-Performs physical and emotional wellness assessments.  Establishes individualized student health and wellness plans according to protocol outlined in the center’s Health Care Guidelines.

-Documents each encounter with students in their health records.

-Works to ensure provision of health and wellness education to students.

-Interprets all expected outcomes, policies and procedures outlined in the PRH and Federal Register pertinent to the center’s health and wellness component.  Ensures that appropriate center operating directives are written and implemented.

-Assists Counselors, Resident Counselor and Health Education Instructors in providing health education to students.

-Performs health records and quality assurance audits.

-Performs duties assigned to Health and Wellness Co-Disability Coordinator. Responsible for the provision of disability services with the Academic Co-Disability Coordinator.

-Ensures the reporting of all communicable diseases, child abuse cases, etc. as mandated by state and county regulations.

-Ensures the proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous wastes generated by the health and wellness center.

-Ensures that the proper protocol is followed for infection control.  Ensures the proper handling of specimens and equipment, as well as the appropriate sterilization of equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:  Active, unrestricted license to practice in state where center is located as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in nursing. Three years’ experience as a practicing nurse, one of which was in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Preferred: Four or more years of experience

General Information:  In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, candidate must have regular attendance.

Knowledge Required:   Strong working knowledge of nursing techniques/procedures. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Familiarity with medical needs of disadvantaged youth. Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certificates. Sound management techniques. Ability to handle multiple priorities.
