Healthcare Statistical Analyst

The Healthcare Statistical Analyst will work on all aspects of data collection at FAIR Health, such as collection and coordination of data from various sources, data standardization, documentation of data attributes, and communication with internal and external stakeholders. This role will work with customers to acquire the data, analyze and test the data for quality metrics and, ultimately, integrate the data into the FAIR Health data warehouse.

The position will also be responsible for supporting the development of FAIR Health client products through translation of business needs into data driven deliverables and analyses. It includes the design and development of related statistical solutions using FAIR Health technological assets and expertise. While working with multiple FAIR Health stakeholders, the individual will define and report on requests for data analyses and participate in multiple project meetings.

This person should have an understanding of healthcare claims data and a working knowledge of coding (ICD, HPCPs, CPT, etc.). They should also have a strong analytic and statistical background and along with an ability to read data and extract information from it. They will then be able to develop reports and analyses which clearly identify results.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to work with multiple datasets including, but not limited to merging, cleansing, and documenting the dataset.
  • Prepare and create files for additional analysis.
  • Produce statistical analyses from files and datasets, including regression models.
  • Create charts and tables for dissemination to multiple stakeholders.
  • Evaluate multiple analyses and derive results that can be documented and presented to stakeholders.
  • Understand and work with all aspects of healthcare claims data to identify trends and other salient information.
  • Work on FAIR Health products and create reports and analytics that reflect actionable, value infused information based on the results.
  • Evaluate and establish validity of claims data and data element combinations to ensure accuracy and completeness of all reporting results.
  • Utilize strong healthcare data knowledge to help to craft data analyses to support grant work as well as internal products.
  • Work with statistical analytical toolsets such as SAS/R to produce database tables, statistical results and graphical representations.
  • Follow good programming practices, including writing code that is comprehensible, commented, and easy to modify.
  • Investigate and resolve issues independently related to statistical modeling and data quality.
  • Create documents, artifacts, and other materials to disseminate to stakeholders based on analysis results.
  • Assist in the enforcement and achievement of project deadlines and schedules while conducting analyses.
  • Create and present informative, well-organized presentations that can be used at multiple levels in multiple organizations.


  • Demonstrated experience with SAS, SQL, SPSS, STATA or equivalent database or statistical language.
  • Experience with large databases.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a highly cross-functional, multi-location organization.
  • Knowledge in advanced statistical modeling and validation methodologies, including, but not limited to, predictive modeling, heavy-tailed distribution modeling and machine learning.
  • Good knowledge of medical claims data, including, but not limited to, inpatient claims, outpatient claims, professional claims, specialty pharmacy and pharmaceutical claims.
  • Expert presentation skills; comfortable with working with executive-level personnel both inside and outside the organization.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence toolsets, such as Qlikview, SAS JMP, Tableau, Oracle Business Objects, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A working knowledge of healthcare coding (CPT, ICD, HCPCS, revenue codes, DRG).
  • Extensive knowledge in all aspects of healthcare data, including, but not limited to medical claims, specialty pharmacy, pharmaceutical, EMR, laboratory data.
  • Understanding of healthcare data and analyses and a good understanding of variations in the data itself.
  • Expert ability with MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to proactively engage in all aspects of project definition through implementation, problem assessment through resolution, and BI reporting for presentation, focusing on both big picture and specific project detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
