Office Based Opioid Treatment Staff Nurse – CASA (Casa Esperanza/ Other BHCP sites)

In this vital role as an Office Based Opioid Treatment Staff Nurse, you will provide skilled BILINGUAL (Spanish and English) nursing services to opioid dependent patients and their significant support systems including: ongoing assessment, intakes, evaluations, triage, teaching, inductions, and stabilizations. Assist in the primary care of patients within the opioid treatment program, and facilitate support and services provided at other settings. Collaborate with team members at various BHCHP clinic settings, outside referral sites, and with providers from addiction settings throughout Massachusetts. This position will be half time at Casa Esperanza and half time at one of our other BHCHP sites. This position will report directly to the OBOT Supervisor with a dotted line to the specific site directors.

Primary Duties:
• Perform initial assessment and intake obtaining social, medical, mental health, substance abuse and medication history.
• Collaborate, communicate, and meet with opioid treatment team as needed and required
• Provide education and assessment to patients looking to access opioid treatment programs
• Assess and monitor patients in the induction, stabilization, and maintenance phases of treatment
• Provide ongoing management, education, and support of patients in all phases of treatment including: nursing visits scheduled and random, urine toxicology screens, routine labs and as needed, medication teaching, monitoring, pill counts, observed dosing, and medication refills.
• Follow State and Federal guidelines in providing care to opioid dependent patients in collaboration with licensed, prescribing physicians and pharmacy
• Complete appropriate documentation with record keeping
• Assist in the ongoing primary care of patients referred to the opioid treatment program
• Consistently use clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication; and comply with departmental policies when sharing/documenting relevant patient care data.
• Works with the pharmacy and the OBOT team in obtaining medication orders, prescriptions, refills, and communication as needed

Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed to meet program needs, at the discretion of the supervisor.

Qualifications:
• Must be bilingual in Spanish and English
• Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
• Experience with the homeless population preferred
• Certified in related specialty areas preferred
• Leadership experience with the ability to work autonomously
• Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience preferred
• Addiction experience required
• Experience in HIV/AIDS related medical/social issues.
• Knowledge of community, and health resources, particularly addiction related resources and supports
• Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with providers and team members from various settings
• Sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, gender; beliefs, and behaviors
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with excellent communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities

Physical and Mental Requirements
Must be bilingual in Spanish and English
Ability to travel to multiple sites
Demonstrated interest in working with an underserved population
