Psychiatric RN Job Shadowing Opportunity

Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center is a Joint Commission approved and state licensed facility for 97 beds, which includes pediatric units, adolescent girls, adolescent boys, and MISA (Mental Illness Substance Abuse) unit. We are committed to providing youth with compassionate treatment that encourages self-responsibility and personal growth. Lincoln Prairie provides treatment to children and adolescents (ages 3-17) that present with a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral disorders. Lincoln Prairie offers an array of outpatient programs. We provide educational programs, enhanced Occupational Therapy services, Recreational Therapy, Art and Music Therapy, while utilizing a holistic treatment approach.

We are offering an opportunity for current nursing students, recent nursing graduations, or licensed registered nurses to shadow the psychiatric RN position at our facility. The Psychiatric RN job shadow opportunity is a research tool to learn about a career field of interest and to gain real life perspective of what it is like to engage in the role of a Psychiatric RN. RN students and current RNs can get the opportunity to observe an experienced psych nurse to better understand the duties and responsibilities. This is an unpaid job shadow experience, which includes shadowing at least one or two days a week, 4 or 8 hour shifts on days and/or evenings throughout a one month time period. The schedule would be set based on the facility’s and the applicant’s availability.

• Education: Enrolled in or a graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required.
• Experience: One psychiatric clinical rotation completed.
• Licensure/Certification: N/A
• Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of general nursing processes, therapeutic relationships, and limit setting.
• Physical Requirements:  Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping.
• Environmental Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
