OVERNIGHT CAREGIVER/ LVN/ NURSE FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED MALE ENGINEER (berkeley)

I’m a quiet, respectful 32-year-old self-employed electrical engineer, UC Berkeley graduate.

My medical condition causes significant physical weakness, so I need 24/7 assistance to do most physical tasks. I use a power wheelchair, feeding tube and full time breathing machines (with nasal mask or mouthpiece) and prefer to hire someone experienced with this type of care. The job also includes transfers (with a ceiling track lift), positioning, range of motion exercises, some personal care and other tasks as needed. My voice is quiet so I can be difficult to understand initially.

I’m looking for detail oriented, careful, reliable, dedicated caregivers to add to my existing team, most of whom have worked with me for years.

FULL TRAINING AND SUPERVISION WILL BE PROVIDED ON ALL TASKS.

REQUIREMENTS:
– Experience with physical disabilities and breathing equipment desirable
– For overnight shifts, experience and comfort with working this schedule preferred
– Job requires some reaching, so if you’re shorter than 5’4″, some tasks may be physically difficult
– Ability to lift at least 30 lbs
– Fluent English
– Legal to work in USA
– Valid drivers license required for some shifts
– Background and reference checks will be done
– Must commit to working at least one year

PAY:
$20-$25/hour, possible highter, depending on relevant experience and credentials. Medical and dental insurance may be available after 3-4 months.

LOCATION:
I live in my own home, 3 blocks from the Downtown Berkeley BART station, close to buses. Off-street parking is also available.

SCHEDULE:
I am primarily looking to cover overnight shifts on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (and possibly Sundays) from 9pm- 9am. While I usually don’t need much help during the night, you cannot expect to sleep, so you’ll need to have time to rest during the day, between overnight shifts.
