The interpreter facilitates communication in the client-provider relationship ultimately resulting in better client language access.

Interpreters grasp ideas spoken and heard only once then express these ideas in the other language instantly, accurately, and completely, in appropriate style, and with the intent of the original speaker either in person or by phone.
Provides the cultural framework if necessary so messages are understood between parties who do not share a common culture.
Interpreters also may be asked to sight-translate information that includes, but is not limited to: healthcare forms and materials, regulations, research reports, and other similar documents.
Maintain confidentiality regarding personal or healthcare issues or any other information learned during an interpreting encounter as required by HIPAA.
Travel to various locations within the defined region with unfailing punctuality to all interpreting assignments.
Assist individuals with limited English skills in completing necessary forms.
Submit required timekeeping or other documentation in an organized and timely manner.
Other duties as assigned.

Fluently speak, read, and write in English and a second language (bilingual is required).
Ability to professionally communicate with various diverse backgrounds and cultures.
The interpreting, listening, speaking, and memory skills sufficient to interpret accurately, completely, quickly and clearly with the greatest possible fidelity to the spirit of the original message.
Ability to travel to multiple locations throughout the region.
Ability to work and have flexibility during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
Successful completion of a verbal medical terminology/target language examination.
Current healthcare provider medical clearance to include TB, MMR, and Varicella proof of immunity.
Acceptable criminal, background, DMV, and drug screen verifications.
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Previous professional Interpreting training preferred.
Cellular phone, computer with Internet access, and email address.
Comfort working with various computer systems and the internet.
Knowledge of anatomy, major body systems and medical terminology in at least two languages extremely helpful.
Knowledge of Professional Standards and Protocols for Healthcare Interpreters preferred.

Training Requirements:
Successful completion of the Language World Services, Inc. Interpreter Orientation and Training Program. Which includes classroom and practical experience
Ongoing professional training (six hours of continuing education annually).
