The Mental health Technician is responsible for performing delegated assignments to meet the age specific physical, social, and behavioral needs of the patients. The MHT provides routine non-acute physical, behavioral, and mental care to the patient on the milieu under the direction of licensed staff.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must be a high school graduate or general education degree. Experience in direct patient care and/or completion of Nursing Assistant training/previous psychiatric experience preferred.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in many different situations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate with the nurse supervisor, nurse, peers, clinicians, and physicians.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide simple numbers. Must be able to gauge and understand temperature and other vital signs dealing with numerical information.
