JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Recognizes safety hazards and complies with all safety practices and protocols. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Collects and processes lab specimens and performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. May collect and manage samples of blood and other fluids from patients as needed. Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position. Demonstrates critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving. Demonstrates personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment. Seeks personal learning opportunities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Collects medical specimens with strict adherence to established procedures and test requisitions. Identifies available resources and support systems for troubleshooting. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.
DEPARTMENT DETAILS
This is a part time position of 40 hours per two week pay period working rotating days and locations between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This individual will work one 10 hour shift per week at our Brandon location and one 10 hour shift per week at our Hartford location.
QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Bachelors degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
