Laborer – Baltimore, MD

Job Description:

Complete general tasks involving physical labor at building construction projects.  May operate hand and power tools.  May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, and clean up rubble and debris. In addition may assist other craft workers in their trades including loading and unloading trucks.

Job Tasks:

Mix, mop, brush, or spray paints, cleaning solutions or other compounds over surfaces to clean them or to provide protection.

Run Temporary Elevator or Construction Hoists.  Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.

Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment as well as tend machines that pump materials through spray-guns

Lubricate and clean machinery, equipment, and tools.

Apply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking guns.

Oversee the cleaning and preparing the construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.

Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.

Demolish structures and salvage useful materials, including removing shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures including the use of jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement.

Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.

Maintain temporary safety protection such as safety cables and handrails

Identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and or property damage using safety standard, best management practices, and Injury Free Environment Techniques. 

Qualifications:

 

Must have experience as a labor in the construction industry.

Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings and other structure.

Knowledge of the safe and proper use of various machines and tools used in the construction industry

Knowledge of basic jobsite safety requirements with the ability to understand, support and adhere to the company’s safety policy and culture.

OSHA 10 hour Construction Safety Course.

Physical Demands

 

Ability to work skillfully with both hands constantly, independently safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds routinely, 50 pounds occasionally, climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffold, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, twist, finger, grasp and feel on a constant and repetitive basis, stand, walk, talk, see, hear within normal range and perform repetitive motion activities.  Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions including excessive heat and cold, noise, vibrations, dust, fumes, oils, wear a portable respirator.  Ability to work the schedule required by job demands.  Ability to physically negotiate the hazards of a new construction worksite, e.g., uneven surfaces, floor openings, heights, construction debris and poor lighting.
