Job Description

Position: Entry-Level Process Improvement Engineer

Reports to: Plant Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: North America

Purpose:

Process Improvement Engineer reports solid line to the Plant Manager.  The Process Improvement Engineer is responsible for deploying the plant’s Daily Lean Manufacturing program, and supporting process improvement and cost reduction initiatives. This role includes the responsibility to create and manage SMART waste reduction objectives, strategy around and execution thereof. This position is also responsible for the monitoring of the lean management practices within the plant. Process Improvement Engineers work with plant cross functional teams and in collaboration with other plants to drive rapid results to deliver the highest levels of performance through reapplication of best practices.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead/work with functional teams to streamline processes to improve throughput and enable profitable growth
  • Implements and manages the plant’s Lean Daily Management System
  • Assist plant leaders and champions in selecting projects that align with plant financial goals, KPIs and strategies
  • Develop mechanisms and lead initiatives and events to help the organization identify improvement opportunities that reduce/eliminate non-value added activities within production and business processes, (such as 5S, Visual Management, Daily Management Systems, Process Controls and Root Cause Analysis)
  • Ensures plant’s tracking dashboard is maintained, and results are communicated effectively to organizational leadership.  Manage work cell, departmental and overall plant communication boards.
  • Serve as the plant subject matter expert for Lean and Lean Management Initiative tools and methodologies with the ability to deliver training and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Provide ongoing support to multiple project teams
  • Works with plant leadership in installing organizational supports for Lean Management Systems (reviews, communications, rewards, software, etc.)
  • Supports and engages in Plant KPI’s including Safety, Quality, Service, and Cost as a key player in plant management team
  • Leads improvement projects of significant size and scope
  • Deliver training as needed on Lean Management
  • Communicates Lean Management information/news to plant management, staff, and employees
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite applications (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) to develop visual management and “Go / No Go’s” for individual departments
  • Responsible for best practice sharing process within the plant and cluster
  • Travel approximately 10-15% for training and gathering of best business practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Skills and Education/Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering (or other related field of study), or other technical degree preferred.  1-3 years’ work experience including intern experience
  • Or Associates degree with 5+ years’ work experience with practical application
  • Lean Manufacturing Certification Required
  • Well versed in the understanding and execution of continuous process improvement techniques and training (LEAN Manufacturing, Kaizen, etc.)
  • Strong leadership skills required
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills required
  • Strong technical abilities utilizing MS Office Suite programs and creation of visual graphics.  Proficient in Excel and super user proficiently in PowerPoint
